Johnny Sauter's team was penalized and fined today after an opening day inspection of the truck last week at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
Crew chief Joel Shear has been fined $10,000 and suspended from NASCAR competition until the completion of the next four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events, a NASCAR spokesman said. He has been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. The team has also been docked 25 championship driver (Johnny Sauter) and 25 championship owner (Mike Curb) points.
NASCAR officials announced today that the No. 98 truck in the Camping World truck series violated some rules, including altering, modifying, repairing or changing equipment that has been previously approved by NASCAR; modifications to a fuel cell after it has been certified; and requirement of standard fuel cell safety foam with a height of eight inches.
