Kansas City Kansas Community College will be offering three basketball camps in mid-July.
Two All-Skills camps will be offered. One will be for boys and girls in kindergarten through second grade and will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 15-18. The cost is $40.
The second All-Skills camp will be held for girls only in the third through eighth grades from 1 to 4 p.m., also July 15-18. The cost is $60.
In addition, a series of three Basketball Shooting Clinics for girls in the third through eighth grade will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on successive Fridays – July 12, 19 and 26. The cost is $25 for one session, $40 for two sessions and $50 for all three.
Designed to provide instruction on the shooting skills essential to the game, campers in the shooting clinic will be separated according to skill level where they will learn the shooting mechanics and techniques that will allow them to excel as an offensive threat. That includes form, footwork, triple threat, using screens, one-on-one moves and counter moves. In addition, there will be lectures, individual and small group skill work, breakdown drills to create repletion of the skill itself, and competitive play to allow campers an opportunity to apply their newfound skills.
The All-Skills camps are designed to provide instruction on the fundamental components of basketball such as dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. Campers will be separated according to their skill level and instructed to reinforce proper habits through lectures, individual and small group skill work, breakdown drills and competitive play.
Instruction will be provided by Valerie Stambersky, who just completed her 14th year as head women’s coach at KCKCC; nine-year assistant Alicia Roth; and current and former KCKCC student athletes. All sessions will be held in the air-conditioned KCKCC Field House located on the north end of the college campus at 7250 State Ave. The Field House will open a half-hour prior to the start of each camp and remain open a half-hour afterwards.
Each participant is responsible for furnishing basketball or running shoes, practice clothes, towel and water bottle. Also, prior to participation, parents or guardians must provide a medical release form, registration form and paid clinic fees.
Pre-registration is preferred and can be completed on-line at www.kckcc.edu and clicking on Athletics, Women’s Basketball and Summer Camps. Campers can also register in person in the Field House Mondays through Thursdays; by phone to Alicia Roth at 913-288-7461; or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
