Sioux City, Iowa – For the first time this series, a Sioux City pitcher had the T-Bones’ number, as Kansas City dropped the series finale, 8-2, against the Explorers on Wednesday night.
One night after getting 17 hits, Sioux City starter Richard Salazar (2-0) stymied the T-Bones, allowing only four hits in 6 2/3 innings. One of the four hits — and the only run Salazar allowed — came in the fifth inning as Ray Sadler launched a solo homer, his sixth of the season. By that time, though, the Explorers led 2-1.
For the first time in the series, Sioux City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, as former T-Bones catcher Alberto Espinosa delivered a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Sam Judah. The Explorers capped the inning on a RBI single by Anthony Kaskadden.
The Explorers stretched their lead in the seventh with four runs on five consecutive hits.
Shaun Garceau (0-5) took the loss as he allowed seven runs in 6 1/3 innings.
The seven-game roadtrip continues Thursday night in Lincoln, Neb., with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the Saltdogs. Aaron Meade (3-1) gets the start for Kansas City. Pete Parise (2-2) goes for Lincoln.
