Cory Stephens, a junior defender from Bonner Springs, Kan., on the University of Saint Mary men’s soccer team, has been named one of 14 USM scholar athletes.
The list of 2013-2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes was named by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Fourteen students from the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, were honored for their efforts in the classroom and on the field this fall.
In order to receive the NAIA scholar-athlete award, students must be nominated by their head coach or school sports information director, must have achieved junior standing academically, and must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The 14 honored Spires come from a variety of USM fall sports: five from men’s soccer, four from women’s soccer, three from women’s cross country, and one each from volleyball and men’s cross country.
