Kansas City, Kansas Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, which just completed its fourth season of operation, had four teams participate in the Annual “Battle in the Dotte” tournament held at WyCo Sports Complex during the weekend of July 12-14.
The KCK-RBI teams managed to walk away with a stellar performance given the fact it was the first time the majority of its players had played in a tournament where KCK RBI was not the host. Each team member played a full 12-game season with KCK RBI and was selected to play on the Support Towards Inner City Kids (STICKS) league traveling team according to their on the field play, grades, leadership skills, and community service.
The STICKS 7U, 8U, and 12U team that played in the tournament brought home championship trophies, with the STICKS 10U team finished in 4th place.
Sean Richardson, a former Minnesota Twins minor leaguer and 8U STICKS assistant coach, stated, “I cannot remember a more enjoyable experience in my baseball career than this past weekend and seeing how far this program has come in just four years. Seeing our kids compete at a high level against the odds and taking first place is a memory I will not forget. Most of our kids had never picked up a baseball a couple years ago and now they can proudly display their first place trophies that were well deserved. We definitely entered the tournament as the 'push over' team left as the team everyone respected. From the parents, coaches, fans and most of all the kids I could not be more proud to be a part of an organization. We represented KCK RBI in a first class manner and I cannot wait to see how far we can still go.”
A spokesman said KCK RBI would like to thank freightquote.com, Major League Baseball, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, and the Kansas City, Kan., Parks and Rec department for helping make it all possible.
