Bishop Ward returns strong offense
Written by Mary Rupert
Bishop Ward, 6-3 last season, returns a strong offense this year, including Division 1 prospect Mikael Golubski.
In all, six starters return on offense and five on defense.
According to coach Travis Grosdidier, Golubski, a junior running back, is a Division I prospect. Last season Golubski caught three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for 404 yards with a 6.9-yard average and six touchdowns. He also played defensive linebacker, leading the team with 72 tackles, one forced fumble, two sacks and one pass broken up.
Senior quarterback Peter McKiernan also returns for the Cyclones. Last season he completed 49 of 96 passes for 483 yards, four touchdowns and a 52 percent completion rate. Other returning seniors are Alejandro Pacheco, offensive line, who had 33 tackles; and Anfred Rangel, a wide receiver.
On defense, the Cyclones return seniors Golubski along with Pacheco and Johnny Tobin, a defensive back.
Grosdidier, in his first year as head football coach, commented that a tough schedule in a tough league should be an interesting and competitive year. The Cyclones will have to play well each week, he said.
The Cyclones open at Tonganoxie at 7 p.m. Sept. 3.
