The YMCA has planned several opportunities for teens and their families to give back to the community on the Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 20.
Youth Volunteer Corps of Greater Kansas City, a program whose host is the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, is offering a variety of volunteer activities for ages 11-18 and for families with children ages 6-18.
In Kansas City, Kan., activities are planned:
- 8th Street Family YMCA
900 N 8th Street, Kansas City, KS 66101
Volunteers will paint the gym.
- Coalition for Independence
4911 State Ave., Kansas City, KS 66102
Volunteers will help clean out some of the rooms in their building and sort through items to be donated.
- Humane Society of Greater Kansas City
5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104
Volunteers will clean the animals' cages and help out in the cat room.
The activities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day exemplify the Y's commitment to strengthening the community through social responsibility and YVCKC's focus on promoting a lifetime commitment to service among youth ages 11-18.
Through their unique partnership, YVCKC and the Y continue to ensure youth have the opportunity to learn and grow from giving back to their community through organized service opportunities.
