The Wyandotte County Veterans Commemoration event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
Some other Veterans Day activities also are planned, including a Veterans Day trail run on Nov. 10 at Wyandotte County Lake Park.
In addition, the Washington High School Marching Band and Junior ROTC will participate in the Leavenworth Veterans Parade at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

Veterans commemoration event to be Nov. 9
The 13th annual Wyandotte County Veterans Commemoration Event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
Doors open at 10 a.m. to view commemorative displays and refreshments. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. All veterans are invited to the public appreciation event.
The featured speaker is Wyandotte County Election Commissioner Bruce Newby, retired major.
Special guests are Mayor Mark Holland and Cheyne Worley, retired veteran and staff member in the office of U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist.
Entertainment is by the Piper High School Music-in-Motion, the Schlagle High School Marching Band, and Washington High School Junior ROTC.
The event is sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City, Kan., Convention and Visitors Bureau, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library.
Veterans Day trail run
The Veterans Day Fantastic Four-Mile Trail Run will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 10 starting at Shelter 9, Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City, Kan. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m. on the day of the race.
Veterans, current or former members of the armed forces, police, fire department, park ranger or EMT emergency services may enter the race for free. They need to fill out the race form on race day. Entry fee for everyone else is $10. For more information, visit www.psychowyco.com/id65.html.
Leavenworth Veterans Parade
The Washington High School Marching Band and Junior ROTC will participate in the Leavenworth Veterans Parade at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11. The parade begins at 4th and Cherokee in Leavenworth, proceeds to Esplanade, Delaware, 7th, then Cherokee to 5th.
Veterans Day ceremony at the Liberty Memorial
A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, Mo. Expected to speak are U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, D-Mo., Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James, and Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander.
A military dog demonstration will be held. Also, a Wounded Warriors Mustang Car Show is planned.
Admission is free to the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
