The water park in Kansas City, Kan., will feature a new Zip Line attraction this year, according to Layne Pitcher, park spokesman.
The new Zip Line will allow visitors to ride across the park and over a pond in a chair that seats two persons, he said. The ride can reach speeds of 30 mph and a height of 100 feet.
The park is famous for its Tidal Wave river, the longest one of its kind. Measuring 1,800 feet in length, the river provides waves reaching 4 feet high.
Then there’s the King Kaw, a tube ride that is the longest one in the Midwest, stretching the length of the park, and connecting to the Kristal River and Mighty Mo.
Schlitterbahn will be a stop on the Boogie Bahn competition this year. A surfing ride, the Boogie Bahn contest will be July 4. Winners may go on to the finals in South Padre Island.
Many new rides were added to the park last year, and this year, Schlitterbahn is adding more VIP cabanas, Pitcher said. The cabanas are a place for families to meet and sit in the shade, and were highly in demand in the past. The cost of the cabanas is $75 on weekdays and $100 on weekends.
Improvements to restrooms and landscaping also are in the works this year, Pitcher said.
The park is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 27.
