Horse show planned
A horse “fun show” is planned at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Willow Springs Ranch, 11501 Donahoo Road, Kansas City, Kan. It will be a “fun show” and “play day,” according to Abby Strawder, a trainer at the ranch. The ranch is located about one and a half miles west of the I-435 exit to Donahoo Road.
Forty-three different events are planned, with the gamer - speed classes starting at 2 p.m. or after. Any breed may enter. There is no admission charge for spectators. Those registering horses will pay a fee, and may register on the day of the event. Plans are to hold the event outdoors, but in case of rain, it can be held indoors in the arena. End of Summer Carnival planned at Schlagle Library
The Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, at Wyandotte County Lake Park plans an End of Summer Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Games, prizes, and entertainment are planned at the family event. There will be a special guest presentation by Dino O'Dell at 11:30 a.m. Concession food will be for sale by the Leavenworth Road Association. Event and entertainment are free. There is a small donation for the games.
Author, photographer to sign copies of new book
Author and photographer Don Wolf will sign copies of his new book, “Croatian Love Story,” from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd, and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Donnelly College, 608 N. 18th St.
Art exhibit reception to be Aug. 10
A reception for the Wyandotte Art Association art exhibit will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 10 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. The new exhibit has more than 40 works by five local artists. The exhibit, “Capturing the Moment,” runs from Aug. 2 through Aug. 30 at the library. The public may meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments at the reception.
Quilt show on display at museum
The annual quilt show is on display at the Wyandotte County Museum, 631 N. 126th (near 126th and State Avenue), Bonner Springs. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Saturday; closed Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Free concert planned at Legends Outlets Aug. 10
Rattle and Hum, a U2 tribute band, will rock the Legends Outlets in a free concert from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the fountain center courtyard area. The concert is free and open to the public. Those attending may bring lawn chairs.
Kids night out planned Aug. 10
Kids Night Out: Sea Life is planned from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Providence-Ball Family Center YMCA, 8601 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. Children ages 2 to 12 may enjoy dinner, games and activities. Ages 4 and older may swim. Those who register by Aug. 5, the cost is $15 for Y members and $25 for community participants. For those who register after Aug. 5, the cost is $20 for Y members and $30 for community participants. Sibling discounts are available.
Church plans supper
Edwardsville United Methodist Church, 302 N. Fourth St, Edwardsville, will have a Second Saturday Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, serving grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and desserts. Requested donations are $8 for adults and $3 for children.
