Juneteenth celebration to feature parade, entertainment, contests and car show
The eighth annual Juneteenth celebration will be held June 14-15 at Big Eleven Lake, 11th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan.
The event starts at 6 p.m. June 14 with a prayer vigil, followed by music in the park, with live bands and entertainment, according to Sandra Harris, an event organizer. The ending time is around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Then, a parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15. After the parade, the celebration starts at noon and ends at 5 p.m. at Big Eleven Lake.

Flying Asbinis to perform at Alcott
The Flying Asbinis Traveling Sideshow Arts-Travaganza will perform at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St.
A variety of visual and performing art acts will be featured at this fundraiser for the Alcott Arts Center.
The fifth annual performance will feature artists and performers from many different areas.

Democrats to meet June 15
The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, June 15, at Johnny Carino's Italian Restaurant, 1706 Village West Parkway, in Village West, Kansas City, Kan.
The speakers this month will be State Sen. David Haley, D-4th Dist., and State Rep. Kathy Wolfe Moore, D-36th Dist.
The cost for the breakfast buffet, which includes tax, service and tip, is $10; or $7 for students and those on limited income. All Democrats are invited to attend.

Interfaith prayer vigil and people's Town Hall on immigration
Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation, the Metropolitan Organization for Racial and Economic Equity and Sunflower Community Action are conducting an interfaith prayer vigil and a people’s town hall meeting on immigration at 1 p.m. on June 15 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kan., 5010 Parallel Parkway. The meeting is open to the public.
Disc golf tournament coming to Kansas City area
The 31st annual Kansas City Wide Open disc golf tournament will be held June 14-16 on Kansas City area disc golf courses.
Rosedale Park, 4125 Mission Road, in Kansas City, Kan., will be one of the four parks in the metropolitan area participating in the event.
The national tour is scheduled to be at Rosedale Park at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, for round two of the competition.
The Kansas City Wide Open will be one of the top six events in the Professional Disc Golf Association’s national tour.
Competitors from all over the world will be vying for more than $50,000 in cash and prizes in the world championship level courses.

Westheight plans garage sale June 15
The annual Historic Westheight Neighborhood Garage Sale in Kansas City, Kan., will take place on Saturday, June 15. Residents will welcome visitors to the sale starting at 8 a.m. It will be up to the individual residents when they want to end their sales.
Westheight is located north of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. The main entrance to the neighborhood is off North 18th Street at Washington Boulevard. Yard signs will indicate the residents holding garage sales, and maps to participating homes will be available at each home.
The Historic Westheight Neighborhood Association, a voluntary organization, is sponsoring and coordinating the event. Residents will handle their own sales, and proceeds will go to the residents.

Trail runs scheduled at Wyandotte County Lake Park
Trail runs and other events are scheduled this summer at Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City, Kan.
The Summer Intro 2.8 mile trail run will take place at 9 a.m. June 15 at the lake park.

Run the Good Race scheduled June 15
The 14th annual Run the Good Race, a benefit for Sanctuary of Hope in Kansas City, Kan., will be held on June 15.
It includes a 5K cross country run and a 5K road course run-walk.
