Kids’ Fishing Derby to be June 8
The Ed and Ione Trapp Kids’ Annual Free Fishing Derby will be June 8 at Wyandotte County Lake Park, kids’ pond. Sponsored by the Leavenworth Road Association, the fishing derby registration begins at 7 a.m., the event begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. The trophy presentation is at 11:15 a.m. The derby is open to all Wyandotte County youth ages 3 to 15.
Church youth to hold garage sale
The youth at the Open Door Baptist Church, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, will have a garage sale to raise funds for their mission trip from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7-8.
Make giant stepping stones
Adults, seniors adults and teens may make garden stepping stones at a craft class from 10 to 11 a.m. June 8 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd, Conference Room B. Registration is required to 913-596-5800, Ext. 1006. The class is for ages 16 and older. There is a 15-person limit.
Flower garden ornament making class offered
Recycled glass will be used to make garden decorations at a craft class from 10 a.m. to noon June 8 at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota, young adult story time-craft room. Participants will glue and paint glass into flower shapes. The class is for adults, but teens may attend if accompanied by an adult. There is a $7 fee for supplies. Registration is necessary to 913-279-2066.
Junior archeologist program planned
Children may participate in a junior archeologist program from 2 to 4 p.m. June 8 at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd. Children will identify fossils and dig for treasure. Those under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of six or more must register in advance to 913-596-5800, Ext. 1016.
Turner variety show planned June 8
A Turner variety show is planned from 3 to 5 p.m. June 8 in the Turner Recreation Center gym, 831 S. 55th St. Scheduled to perform at the variety show are the Wyandotte County Community Orchestra, Joe the Piano Man, the Mexicala Dancers, the Priorities barbershop quartet, and professional clowns.
Church holds salsa lessons
Free salsa lessons are held from 3 to 4 p.m. each Saturday in June at Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., and new participants are welcome.
Church plans supper
Edwardsville United Methodist Church, 302 N. 4th St., Edwardsville , will hold its Second Saturday Supper from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Grilled pork steak, various salads, drinks and brownies will be served. Suggested donations are $8 for adults and $3 for children.
T-Bones play Quebec

World of Outlaws Sprint Cars to visit Lakeside Speedway
A full house is expected Saturday, when the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars visit Lakeside Speedway. The World of Outlaws is a national touring series. Saturday’s racing starts at 7:30 p.m. The track is close to the Missouri River, at 5615 Wolcott Drive, Kansas City Kan.
