Four authors to discuss books Saturday
A local authors’ discussion will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at South Branch Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
The Kansas City Press Club and the oOuth Branch Library are sponsoring the event, presenting some of the Kansas City area’s hometown authors. Four authors will share thoughts on their latest book and answer questions.
Authors will be on hand after the discussion to sign copies of their books. Authors include Daryl Levings, Kansas City Star editor and author of “Saddle the Pale Horse,” Joe Vaughan, author of a pictorial history, “Kansas City, Kansas,” Andrea Warren, author of award-winning books for young readers including ”Pioneer Girl," and Bill Ouseley, retired FBI agent and author of “Mobsters in our Midst - The Kansas City Crime Family.”
There is no charge for the program.
Two artists’ works featured Saturday at Alcott
Two artists will be featured at an art reception at 6:30 p.m. May 11 at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th, Kansas City, Kan.
The public may attend and visit with the artists.
Karen Novak, a native of Kansas City, Kan., will display mixed media works. She adds to her paintings to make them three-dimensional, according to Chris Green, executive director of Alcott Arts.
Tiffany N. Cody, from Lawrence, Kan., will display her photographs at the Alcott.
The art will be on display at the Alcott until June 1. There is no admission charge. Gallery hours after May 11 will be by appointment.

Musician’s 75th birthday tour kicks off in May
Millage Gilbert’s 75th birthday blues tour will kick off in May, and includes a stop May 11 at Nefertiti Hall in Kansas City, Kan.
Born in Jackson, Miss., on May 24, 1938, Gilbert was from a family of blues players.
Gilbert, who performs in New York, Europe and Mississippi, was the “king” of the 2004 Kansas City, Kan., Blues Festival.

Taco dinner planned
A taco dinner sponsored by St. Cyril’s Social Club is planned from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Cyril’s hall.
Church plans Second Saturday Supper
Edwardsville United Methodist Church, 302 N. 4th St., Edwardsville will have a Second Saturday Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, serving Mexican foods, drinks and desserts. Requested donations are $7 for adults and $3 for children.
