Many activities are scheduled for Saturday, May 4, in Wyandotte County. Two that have been postponed because of the weather include the Cinco de Mayo parade in downtown Kansas City, Kan., which will be held later; and the KCKCC baseball playoff game, rescheduled for Sunday.
Some of the activities still planned for Saturday include Polski Day, the Big 12 rowing championship, Ag Hall tractor cruise, Marble Day and the Piper Craft Fair. More details are below.
9th Blue Devil 5k and Kids Trot May 4 at KCKCC
Adults and youngsters alike will take part in the 9th annual Blue Devil 5k and Kids Trot to be held Saturday, May 4, on the campus of Kansas City Kansas Community College. The 5k run-walk will start at 8 a.m. at the Wellness Center on the east side of the campus with a Kids run to start at 9 a.m. The cost is $30 and includes an event T-shirt, goody bag and pancake breakfast for all entrants following the run.
Church to hold pancake breakfast
The Men's Brotherhood of Zion United Church of Christ at 2711 N. 72nd St. in Kansas City, Kan., will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast in the church fellowship hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children under age 12 and can be purchased at the door.
Benefit tractor cruise planned May 4 at Ag Hall
A tractor cruise returns May 4 to the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, 126th and State, in Bonner Springs. Participants will drive tractors on a 35-mile loop to raise funds for the Ag Hall. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Ag Hall, continue to downtown Bonner Springs to join the Marble Day parade, then take a spin around Lakeside Speedway, with stops at Cabela’s, Nuts and Bolts Hardware and Wyandotte County Park. The benefit, sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Two Cylinder Club, will end with a barbecue dinner at the Ag Hall of Fame. UG Commission to hold special session Saturday
The Unified Government Commission will hold a special session at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Donnelly College Community Event Center, 608 N. 18th St. It will be a commission strategic planning session.
Piper craft fair to be May 4
A Piper Craft Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 at Piper Elementary School, 3131 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kan. Admission is free. All ages are welcome. A sampling of what is available: jewelry, floral, driftwood art, crochet, sewing, rustic furniture, quilts, painted window art and more. There will be over 60 booths featuring local crafters. Concessions including hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and desserts will be available for purchase. Piper High School's FIRST Robotics team, Team Stealth, is sponsoring this event. The public is invited.
Big 12 women’s rowing championship May 4 at Wyandotte County Lake
The Big 12 Women’s Rowing Championship will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road, with spectators located near the beach shelter. The event’s host is the University of Kansas women’s rowing team. Other Big 12 women’s rowing teams are expected to compete. There is no admission fee, but a $5 parking fee will be charged, and concessions will be available.
Legislative delegation to discuss issues
The Wyandotte County legislative delegation will discuss the current session and what is left for the rest of the session at a Coffee and Conversation meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. The meeting is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Area Chamber of Commerce.
Marble Day planned May 4

Polski Day celebration to benefit church
The 29th annual Polski Day celebration will be held rain or shine Saturday, May 4, at St. Joseph-St. Benedict’s Church, at 8th and Vermont, in Kansas City, Kan. The traditional Polski Day Parade begins at noon at 14th and Central, and heads east on Central Avenue to 8th Street going up the wrong way on a one-way street to Vermont and ends at the church. Enjoy Polish food, music, and entertainment beginning at noon. A special Polka mass will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at St. Joseph-St. Benedict’s Church. The event continues until 7 p.m.
KCKCC to hold spring dance concert May 4
Upwards of 30 dancers will be performing when the Theatre Department of Kansas City Kansas Community College presents the 2013 Spring Dance Concert Saturday, May 4. Choreographed by Haley Hoss Jameson and Sharell Hall, the concert will start at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Ave. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and children. Featuring modern jazz and tap dance, the performance will showcase techniques taught during spring semester classes.
