The annual downtown Kansas City, Kan., Cinco de Mayo parade will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, starting at 7th and Minnesota and proceeding to 18th Street.
The Cinco de Mayo celebration will continue with festivities outside Bonito Michacan’s store at 1150 Minnesota Ave., including live entertainment, horse shows, food, drink, bands and booths.
A music concert for kids and families will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at 1150 Minnesota Ave.
Stagecoach rides will be provided free by Mahaffie Farms on Sunday, and a mural contest will be held with the participation of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools, a spokesman for the parade said. The winning student’s design will be selected at 3 p.m. The winning design will be painted on a wall later in 2013.
The sixth annual parade and festival is sponsored by Bonito Michacan and the Romero family.
“This is one of those exciting moments when we can celebrate a culture and a belief and the ability to enjoy our new businesses in our downtown,” said Ed Linnebur, the director of the Downtown Shareholders. He said everyone is invited to the event, and that people should take a moment to take a look and see how beautiful downtown has become.
