As part of its ongoing support for area nonprofit organizations, BPU employees sponsor and host an annual charity golf tournament, with all proceeds from the fundraiser donated to local not-for-profits within the community. Since 1992, the BPU Annual Golf Tournament has raised more than $430,000 to assist organizations in Wyandotte County.
Proceeds from the 2012 event were distributed to several organizations that serve youth in the community, including the Boy Scouts of America. Volunteer organizers of the charity golf tournament, and BPU executive staff, recently presented representatives from the Boy Scouts of America with a check for $5,000 during a formal presentation at BPU headquarters in downtown Kansas City, Kan.
“On behalf of the BPU employees who volunteer their time and effort to this worthwhile event, I’m pleased to present area Boy Scouts with a $5,000 donation in support of their local programs and activities to help young persons in our community,” stated Don Gray, general manager of BPU. “BPU employees are extremely active within our community, contributing to the Annual United Way campaign, volunteering through the BPU Employee Foundation, or assisting with the Annual Golf Tournament. There are numerous ways for them to help, and I’m proud we had so many employee-volunteers step up and lend a hand, either individually or as part of a group, to assist with this year’s 2012 Charity Golf Tournament."
