‘Native Words, Native Warriors’ exhibit continues

Juneteenth celebration to be June 14-15
The eighth annual Juneteenth celebration will be held June 14-15 at Big Eleven Lake, 11th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. The event starts at 6 p.m. June 14 with a prayer vigil, followed by music in the park, with live bands and entertainment. A parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15. The annual Historic Westheight Neighborhood Garage Sale will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 15. Individual garage sales may end at different times. Westheight is located north of State Avenue at North 18th and Washington Boulevard. Yard signs will indicate residents holding garage sales. Proceeds of the sales will go to residents.

‘Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy’ offered
A cooking class designed just for cancer patients, families and caregivers will be offered June 20. “Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy,” offered by The University of Kansas Cancer Center, will include cooking demonstrations with recipes and tips for making food appealing and enhancing appetites. Hamburger Mary’s Bar and Grille will be the site of the Wyandotte County Civitan fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 101 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. Funds are being raised for the developmentally disabled and other charitable needs.
Class reunion planned
The Washington High School Class of 1973 is planning a 40th reunion July 19-21. The event includes a golf scramble July 19 at Sunflower Hills Golf Course, a meet and greet July 19 at the Great Wolf Lodge, a dinner and dance July 20 at Sporting Park, and family visits and tours at Washington High School on July 21. The reunion committee is trying to reach as many classmates as possible, and would like to have a small number of digital photos of class members.
Destination Science Summer Camp scheduled
Destination Science Summer Camp is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting July 29 at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City, Kan. The science camp for middle school students includes team building, orienteering, fishing, water games and exploration, nature trail hikes and outdoor survival.
