The “Walk the Dotte” fundraiser for KCK Special Olympics will be held Saturday, June 22, at Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Avenue.
Registration starts at 6:45 a.m. and the walk begins at 8 a.m. The KCK Huggers sponsored Special Needs Boy Scouts Troop 133 from Kaw District will assist by handing out fruit, cold water and balloons to participants.
Funds raised from this event will help provide sports and activities for the KCK Special Olympics program’s 420 members ranging in ages from 5 to 75-plus.
Basketball, track and field, softball, and bowling are the primary sports with themed dances, educational trips, movie dinner nights, and other fun activities such as outings for shopping, and vacation day trips.
KCK Huggers, Inc.-Special Olympics strives to provide more than just sports for athletes. Visit the web site at www.kckhuggers.org for more information.
The Huggers' mission is to “Inspire and encourage intellectually and physically challenged individuals to lead a rewarding and healthy lifestyle through education, sports, and activities.”
This year’s event sponsors included: Laborers’ International Union, Local 1290 and 1290PE, Family Medical Group, Burke Travel, Inc., Associated Podiatrists, KCK Huggers, Inc.-Special Olympics and The Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.
This is a good walk for someone interested in trying an organized walking event for the first time, a spokesman for the event said.
Registration is at www.sportkc.org or call 913-573-8331 or 913-573- 8356 .
