Western Wyandotte County is now under a severe thunderstorm warning until 9 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
At 8:22 p.m., lightning was visible to the northwest in Wyandotte County.
The weather service said at 8:03 pm., severe thunderstorms were located along a line from WInchester to Oskaloosa to Williamstown to Lone Star, and moving east at 25 mph.
The storm has wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-size hail.
The storm has the potential to damage roofs, siding and trees.
Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Maywood, Wolcott, Piper and western Kansas City, Kan., are in the path of the storm.
This could affect I-70 and I-435 in Wyandotte County.
The weather service said to be prepared to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
