A worker removing snow from an apartment complex at 3124 Woodview Ridge Drive escaped injury this afternoon after a carport collapse.
According to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department, a large carport collapsed about 12:32 p.m. March 2 as a person in a Bobcat was removing snow.
The worker was trapped and was rescued by the Fire Department.
According to a Fire Department spokesman, crews made contact with the person in the Bobcat, then used chainsaws to cut through the collapsed structure and reach the Bobcat operator.
The worker was protected by a protective cage around him, the spokesman said. Crews were able to extricate the individual, who was not injured.
The carport was a complete loss and six vehicles were extensively damaged, according to the spokesman. The damage to the carport and vehicles was estimated at $85,000, according to the Fire Department.
The apartments are near I-35 and 18th Street Expressway.
There were no injuries.
