Plowing residential neighborhoods
Neighborhood snow plowing in Kansas City, Kan., is underway, said Edwin Birch, Unified Government spokesman.
At 11 a.m. Wednesday, he said snow plowing is ongoing in 20 to 30 neighborhoods, with crews working hard to reach residential streets.
The primary and secondary routes were completed by 9 a.m., and crews then started to make the transition to neighborhoods.
He said the Unified Government is asking for residents’ patience, as the storm didn’t totally end until 4 a.m. Wednesday. Winds last night and earlier this morning added to the snow removal task, as snow blew onto some areas already plowed. The wind now has died down, he said, which is helping in the snow removal.
Snow plowing in neighborhoods should be complete by 3 or 4 a.m. Thursday, he said.
Crews are currently working 20-hour shifts for snow plowing, he said.
The UG has enough salt and sand to treat the local roads, he added.
UG staff are answering 311 phone calls about snow removal, and residents may call if their street is not cleared by Thursday morning. The UG has an email address for snow plowing at email@example.com.
