A court case had been filed alleging excessive force after a person was shot by an officer and died on June 27, 2009. In the court case, it was alleged that the person was sleeping in a car at an intersection when police approached him. The person woke up and drove away, fleeing and going the wrong way on a one-way street, according to the allegations in the suit. Then officers allegedly blocked him for driving away by parking their cars in front and back. An officer then allegedly approached the person, who was shot twice, according to the suit.
