Two firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries when they fell through a floor while fighting a fire today near 18th and Minnesota.
A spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department said that one firefighter suffered a knee injury and the other had a back and neck injury, and were taken to a hospital.
When crews arrived at the fire at 1857 Minnesota Ave. at 8:59 a.m. March 25, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the two-story wood-framed building, the spokesman said.
The fire had extended to the second floor and attic. A primary search indicated the structure was vacant, according to the spokesman.
Crews had to evacuate the building when the floors started to give way, he said.
The spokesman said the crews were hampered because the structure had been converted into apartments.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in one hour.
The fire is under investigation and damage was estimated at $30,000 to the structure, the spokesman said.
