A tornado watch is in effect for Wyandotte County and the Kansas City area, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado watch will continue through 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the weather service.
Almost 60 counties in Kansas are under the tornado watch.
Severe thunderstorms are possible today, especially after 4 p.m., according to the weather service.
The storms could include supercells capable of producing very large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes, the weather service stated.
Residents are advised to monitor the weather and listen for further developments.
In the event of a tornado warning, residents are advised to seek shelter immediately.
