The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Wyandotte County from 3:15 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
The watch is also in effect in surrounding Kansas counties.
The weather service said a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to form from southwest Iowa through eastern Kansa by late this afternoon or early this evening.
The storm is expected to track eastward through the forecast area overnight, according to the weather service.
Areas along and west of I-35 will have the greatest chance for severe storms. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible during the first few hours of development, the weather service said.
Once the squall line has matured, the severe threat will make a transition to mainly damaging winds, the weather service said.
