Several candidates have filed recently for the spring city and school board elections in Wyandotte County, according to the Wyandotte County election commissioner’s office.
The filing deadline is noon Jan. 22 for the spring elections. The primary election will be Feb. 26 and the general election is April 2.
On the election commissioner’s candidate filing list as of Monday, Jan. 7:
Filing for Unified Government Commission, 7th District, was Jim Walters, Bonner Springs. The incumbent , Thomas Cooley, also has filed.
Others filing for Unified Government positions include James Connelly and Victor A. Harris Sr., UG Commission, 1st District; Mike Kane, incumbent, UG Commission, 5th District; Nathan Barnes, mayor; Harold (Hal) Walker, UG Commission at large, 2nd District; and Butch Ellison, incumbent, UG Commission, 8th District.
Incumbent Sheriff Donald Ash has filed for re-election.
Also filing was Mary Gonzales, incumbent, Board of Public Utilities, at-large, 1st District.
Jack L. Knight has filed for Bonner Springs mayor; and John “Tiny” McTaggart, incumbent, has filed for Edwardsville mayor.
Some candidates also have filed for school boards. Steve Russell has filed for the Turner School Board; Darrell Yoder has filed for the Piper School Board; and Ray L. Cox and Jeff Tinberg have filed for the Bonner Springs School Board.
John “J.D.” Rios, incumbent, has filed for the Kansas City Kansas Community College Board of Trustees.
