Kansas City, Kan., residents are asked to cancel outdoor burning today, according to a Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman.
Today's forecast from the National Weather Service shows high winds for the majority of the day, which causes concerns about outdoor fires, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said any residence whose three-day burn permit that expires today may go to the nearest fire station to request a burn permit for whenever the burn ban is lifted. Outdoor burn permits must be issued 24 hours before the three-day burn permit starts, the spokesman said.
