One person was taken to the hospital for second-degree burns after a fire in the early morning hours Sunday at an apartment building on 18th Street.
According to a Fire Department official, the fire is under investigation and is thought to be unintentional.
Fire crews reported smoke and flames coming from the front of the three-plex at 1503 N. 18th St. when they arrived shortly after midnight Sunday.
The building had been remodeled to accommodate three apartments, which hindered the fire attack, according to a Fire Department official.
The fire was reported in the basement and had spread to the second floor.
Residents of the building heard a smoke alarm and exited the building before fire crews arrived. One adult was taken nonemergency with second-degree burns to a hospital, according to the Fire Department.
The Red Cross was called to assist two adults.
Damage was reported at $80,000 to the building and contents at 1503 N. 18th.There also was $20,000 loss to a building at 1505 N. 18th St, the Fire Department stated.
