Solveig Walton

Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., has selected Solveig Walton, general ledger bookkeeper, as its 2013 Associate of the Year.

Walton works in the accounting department where she completes a variety of bookkeeping tasks, including audit schedules, accounts payable liaison duties, non patient cash postings, cost report schedules and miscellaneous billing duties for variety of related organizations.

“Solveig truly lives the mission of our hospital in her daily work,” said David Dulny, accounting director. “She is always willing to do whatever I need her to do or willing to help other people in our department and other departments within the hospital.”

Walton began working at Providence nearly 16 years ago.  She says her job is never boring and while she completes many of the same tasks as when she started several years ago, new technology and different processes have kept it exciting and never dull.

“I like to keep busy and enjoy a fast pace,” Walton said.  “I can’t express how much this nomination means to me. I really enjoy the people I work with at Providence and feel that each associate, no matter what department they work in or their position, contributes to helping our patients.”

And that primary reason is why Walton is acknowledged as a sincerely caring person who is always willing to help someone out.  She says she thinks it is important to always smile and feels that positive energy can be something we all can give to one another on a daily basis.

"She always says that she is ‘blessed’ and I think that I am the one who is blessed to have such a wonderful person working for me," he said.

Walton resides in Kansas City, Kan., with her 13-year-old daughter, Alena.  She also has an adult son, Dante’ and a grandson, Dante’ Jr. Walton enjoys spending time with her family, including attending her daughter’s volleyball and softball games, reading, fishing and tending to a garden with her father.  Her parents, brothers, sister and their families love spending time together at their family gatherings in the spring and summer. They all enjoy the fruits of their labor from their garden also, including tomatoes, okra, cucumbers and several other vegetables.

As Associate of the Year, Walton will be a special guest at the hospital’s annual service award luncheons. She will also receive a reserved parking space for the year, a gift certificate to a shopping area of choice, $100 cash gift and a $75 gift certificate to a restaurant of her choice.
