Dorothy “Do” McNeil, age 92, died April 13, 2013 in Overland Park, Kan.
She lived most her life in Kansas City, Kan., and was a graduate of Bishop Ward High School.
She served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kan. She was very active in Girl Scouts and women’s softball. She started the Christ the King Go Getters and belonged to the Christ the King Altar Society, Zion Senior Group and played drums in the Senior Citizen Band. She and her husband Gilbert also loved to bowl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert McNeil Jr. in 1978; brother, Dr. George Surprise, and sister, Margaret Lester.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jackson (Jim), Overland Park, Kan., son, Gilbert McNeil III, Kansas City, Kan., four grandchildren, Jamie, Matt, Chris and Jennifer; one great-grandchild, Carter, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 53rd and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home, 6300 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan., where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th St., Overland Park, Kan.
