Young patients will be moving into a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The University of Kansas Hospital on Monday, May 6.
The new unit is designed for 32 babies, but in a surge, can handle up to 40. The unit is a Level III NICU but physicians say it can handle every situation a Level IV can handle except some complex heart procedures.
The unit supports all premature infants or others with special medical needs. It is especially attuned to multiple births and is connected to the hospital’s High Risk Pregnancy Program.
The new unit is 15,527square feet and cost $9 million to build and equip.
