A Kansas City, Kan., man died in a traffic accident Monday morning in western Kansas.
The accident site was on I-70 about 3.5 miles west of the K-27 junction, in Sherman County, Kan. It is near Goodland, Kan., not far from the Colorado border.
According to the trooper's report, Carlos Esqueda, 21, of Kansas City, Kan., was eastbound on I-70 in a Chevrolet Trailblazer about 8:50 a.m. Monday when he struck an icy patch of road. He lost control, crossed all lanes of eastbound traffic, entered into the median and rolled one time. He was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest on its wheels in the median.
The trooper's report stated that Esqueda was taken to the hospital, and died.
A 22-year-old man from Kansas CIty, Kan., who was a passenger in the vehicle was injured in the wreck. He was taken to a hospital.
