The heat index could hit 100 degrees today in Kansas City, Kan., according to the National Weather Service.
Today's high is expected to be 96 degrees this afternoon, the weather service stated.
At noon, the temperature was 91 degrees, with humidity at 47 percent, according to the weather service. The heat index was 95.
The Kansas City area also is under an orange ozone alert Thursday.
Residents are advised to limit their outdoor activities this afternoon and delay them until later if possible, according to the Mid-America Regional Council.
