Mark Gilstrap, former state senator, submitted his application this morning for an open Unified Government Commission seat.
An application process is now underway to receive applications for the open at-large, 1st District seat on the UG Commission. The seat became open when Mayor Mark Holland took office.
The UG clerk's office confirmed that Gilstrap has submitted his name for the open position. So far, he is the only person who has applied, the clerk's office stated.
Residents of the at-large 1st District have until close of day May 17 to submit their names for consideration for the appointment.
After names are submitted, applicants will be screened, with background checks, and will be interviewed by the UG Commission. The commission will vote on the new commissioner.
