Ray L. Cox
Ray L. Cox, 79, is running for re-election to the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville school board.
A state representative for 14 years, Cox also served on the board of education from 1979 to 1985, and from 2009 to 2013.
He has been a teacher, coach and administrator for 16 years, and is also a retired investment adviser and financial planner.
He has received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Kansas.
“Education is my background,” he stated. “I taught for 16 years. I have always had an interest in education. My children and grandchildren have and currently attend USD 204.”
His top campaign issue is to maintain quality education, he said. Many cuts have already been made. “It’s tough, but we must maintain the quality in the classroom. Never cut that,” he said.
The board is a team and working as a team is his top accomplishment, he said.
Cox serves on the Vaughn-Trent Community Services Board.
Cox, a past president of the Bonner Springs Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club, received the Marion W. Vaughn Community Service Award in 2008.
No information was received from the other candidates.
