A fire at a vacant home at 1139 Pennsylvania Ave. that started about 1:36 a.m. July 6 is under investigation, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department.
The home was a total loss, estimated at $20,000 for the home and contents. As fire crews arrived within 4 minutes of the call, they saw heavy fire coming from the front of the one-story building, a spokesman said.
When the roof started to collapse, fire crews had to back out of the structure and fight the fire in a defensive mode, according to the Fire Department spokesman.
The fire was brought under control within 25 minutes, the spokesman said. There were no injuries.
