An elderly woman died after crashing while driving the wrong way on Parallel Parkway about 3:47 p.m. March 19.
Parallel Parkway was closed west of 91st Street while the accident was being investigated and cleared.
Officer Tom Tomasic, police spokesman, said the woman was driving eastbound in the westbound lane in the 9100 block of Parallel Parkway.
She was taken to nearby Providence Medical Center, where she died, he said.
The accident scene was near 92nd and Parallel, near the Grace Christian Fellowship Church.
Driving a silver Ford Taurus, the woman collided with four other vehicles, Tomasic said.
Two others in the accident had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, he said.
Parallel Parkway was wet from snow and rain today. At this time it is not known if wet roads played any role in the accident, Tomasic said.
About 20 officers were working the accident scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department's Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team.
