Candidate forums scheduled

Some upcoming candidate forums and meetings where candidates will appear:

• Feb. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., downtown Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., mayoral candidates invited to address public transportation, sponsored by KC Regional Transit Alliance, BikeWalkKC. • Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., JFK Community Center, 1262 N. 10th St., Unified Government 1st District commissioner; BPU board positions; Kansas City, Kan., school district; and Kansas City Kansas Community College; sponsored by Historic Northeast-Midtown Association.
• Feb. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., Armourdale Recreation Center, 730 Osage, all contested offices; sponsored by Armourdale Renewal Association and Historic Northeast-Midtown Association.
• Feb. 18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Sumner Academy auditorium, 1610 N. 8th St., Kansas City, Kan., candidates for Unified Government mayor, UG commission, and Kansas City, Kan., school board are invited. The event is sponsored by the Wyandotte County United Coalition of Professionals in partnership with the Kansas City, Kan., Black Chamber of Commerce, Sumner Academy Debate Team and the Sumner Spartans Alumni Association.

• March 14, at 6:30 p.m., Piper High School, 4400 N. 107th St., Piper School Board, sponsored by the Piper School District.

• A candidate forum is planned at 6 p.m. Monday, March 25, at St. Andrew's Baptist Church, 53rd and Parallel Parkway.  The forum is sponsored by the Baptist Ministers Union and the Wyandotte County Chapter of the NAACP.  All candidates are invited.
• March 26, at 7 p.m., Stony Point Baptist Church, 7938 Barnett, limited seating, open to all candidates on ballot, sponsored by Stony Point – Hunter’s Glen Neighborhood Association.
• The Wyandotte County GOP will sponsor its second candidates’ night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Frontier steakhouse, 94th and State Avenue. Only the two mayor candidates on the ballot and 10 Unified Government commissioner candidates have been invited to speak, due to time constraints. If other candidates attend, they will be introduced and will be able to visit with people individually after the event.
