Today, the Board of Public Utilities held its preliminary budget hearing.
The BPU is planning a budget of $375 million for the year 2014. Last year it was $389 million.
According to Jeff Bryant, board member, “We told our staff to cut expenses and they did. We are planning not to increase utility rates for the year of 2014. Which means we cut the budget $14 million from last year.”
The board will meet on Dec. 18 for final approval of the budget before it goes to the Unified Government Commission of Wyandotte County for final approval.
