Members of the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Public Utilities elected new officers to the board.
Officers include: David Alvey, president; Mary Gonzales, vice president; Jeff Bryant, secretary.
Alvey is the fifth generation of his family to live in Wyandotte County. He is the assistant principal for faculty formation and professional development at Rockhurst High School. He is a member of the American Public Power Association and currently serves on the APPA Policy Makers Council.
Alvey also served on the Planning and Zoning Commission of the Unified Government. He served as the dean of students and also taught U.S. history at Rockhurst High School and served as program director of the Student Support Program in Marin County, Calif. Alvey is the former national chair of deans of students of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association.
He graduated from Savior of the World High School and attended Rockhurst College before graduating summa cum laude in philosophy and letters from St. Louis University.
Alvey and his wife Ann Marie are the parents of five children: Juliana, Christiana, Joseph, Mariana and Analisa.
Other elected officers are Mary Gonzales, vice president and Jeff Bryant, secretary. Gonzales has served on the board since 2001. Bryant has served on the board since 2011. Both Gonzales and Bryant will work closely with Alvey as part of the officer team.
