A fire at an apartment building today is under investigation, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman.
The fire at 12:18 p.m. April 30 at 1115 Gilmore was at a two-story apartment building. Fire crews arriving within 3 minutes of the call saw smoke coming from the second-floor apartment.
The fire was put out within 10 minutes, the spokesman said. The fire damage, estimated at $3,000, affected the second-floor apartment and the apartment below.
None of the remaining 16 apartments were affected.
There were no working smoke detectors in the apartment building, according to the Fire Department.
The Red Cross was called to assist five adults and three children. There were no injuries in this fire, the spokesman said.
