The longtime news anchor for KSHB’s Channel 41 Action News, Elizabeth Alex, will deliver the keynote address at Kansas City Kansas Community College graduation ceremonies Wednesday, May 22.
Held in the KCKCC Field House, the Leavenworth High School Junior ROTC Color Guard will present the colors at 8 p.m. followed by the singing of the national anthem by Rashad Singleton. KCKCC President Doris Givens will confer degrees and certificates awarded by the Board of Trustees. Music will be provided by the KCKCC Jazz Faculty All-Stars.
Elizabeth Alex served as news reporter and anchor at KSHB-41 for 17 years before retiring this past April to work full-time on her charitable efforts in her position as director of community outreach and media relations for Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
Alex sponsors and runs an orphanage in Romania where she and her family are raising 13 children. In addition to Romania, her travels around the world as a reporter have included stops in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Israel, Gaza, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Guatemala. She has earned many journalism awards for feature, investigative and all-around reporting along with four regional Emmys.
A graduate of Shawnee Mission West, she earned a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Arkansas and worked in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, Ark.; the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois; and West Palm Beach, Fla., before returning to Kansas City where she co-anchored the evening news.
