A young boy and his family exited a burning apartment building this morning through the window, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department.
One minor injury was reported at the fire in a 12-unit apartment building at 16th and Everett at 1:47 a.m. June 21, the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman said.The person was treated at the scene.
The fire was in the central hallway, according to the Fire Department. It was listed as suspicious.
The young boy alerted his parents to the fire before they went out through a window, the spokesman said. Only four units of the apartment complex were occupied at the time of the fire.
When they arrived fire crews saw smoke and flames coming from the center hallway of the apartment complex, the spokesman said. Firefighters made entry into the hallway and suppressed the fire.
The Red Cross was called to assist four adults and two children, the spokesman said. No firefighters were injured.
The estimated dollar loss was $50,000 to the apartment building and contents.
