A women’s wellness program was held last weekend at the Southwest Boulevard Family Health Clinic, 300 Southwest Blvd., in Kansas City, Kan.
More than 30 women attended this event. This was an all-day program. It is a event dedicated to women who want to learn more about health. During this all-day event, women of all ages participated in activities such as yoga, aerobics and nutrition counseling.
The story of the family health care clinic on Southwest Boulevard started in 1989, when it was founded by Dr. Sharon Lee and Kevin Dennis. Boulevard Family Health Care Services was in one of the poorest areas in Wyandotte County. The people living in neighborhoods primarily served by Boulevard Family Health Care live well below the national poverty level. For almost 20 years the family health care clinic has offered hope to care for more than 12,000 individuals, many of whom have nowhere else to turn.
Boulevard Family Health Care is a nonprofit clinic. Comprehensive health care is provided for the entire family. Services include general practice, pediatrics, obstetrics, including chronic diseases such as HIV, diabetes and hepatitis, minor emergency and surgical care as well as dental, mental health and other services.
The women's wellness program is held once a year, normally in the fall. It has a limit of 35 women. This program is one of the most popular the center has to offer. In the future it is planning to hold a women's wellness program not only in the fall but the spring as well.
Family Health Care has other programs as well that benefit the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. For more information, call 913-722-3100.
