About 6,500 pounds of rainbow trout will be delivered to Wyandotte County Lake Park marina at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27.
The trout and channel catfish are being stocked in preparation for the opening day of fishing at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road, according to a Unified Government spokesman.
Pierson Park Lake, in the Turner area at 1800 S. 55th, also is stocked with channel catfish.
Additional shipments are scheduled to arrive in March after opening day, so that the total of trout will be 16,000 pounds and channel catfish, 17,500 pounds, the spokesman said.
A Unified Government fishing permit and a Kansas fishing license is required for Kansas residents age 16 and older or 64 and younger. All non-residents 16 and older are required to have the permit and the Kansas license. The permit and license may be purchased at two Walmart locations, on Parallel Parkway and in Bonner Springs; at Cabela's and at Minnesota Bait.
The UG spokesman said just one thing might delay opening day: ice. Residents may call 913-573-8303, Ext. 5, to check on ice conditions at the lake in the event of bad winter weather.
Lake hours are 6 a.m. to midnight on opening day, March 3, through Nov. 30. Boats require a Wyandotte County boat permit and they need to be off the lake by 11 p.m. Visit the parks and recreation website at www.wycokck.org/parks for more fishing and boating information.
