Grandview Christian Church, 8550 Parallel Parkway, is collecting canned goods for Help 3:17, a local food pantry.
Open Door Baptist Church, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, has scheduled its Christmas celebration from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the church gymnasium. It will be a Sunday night service and celebration, with carols. Those attending will bring cookies. Canned meat items will be accepted to stock the food pantry.
Judson Baptist Church, 8300 State Ave., plans a Sunday School Christmas program at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22. A Christmas Eve Communion service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.
The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., will present a program, “What Makes Pope Francis Tick?” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 28-Feb. 18. Jesuit novices Jonathan Calloway and William McCormick will present a look at Jesuit spirituality as a way to view the world and guide one’s everyday life. The free program is open to men and women. Persons of all Christian traditions are invited to participate in Taizé prayer at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, in Annunciation Chapel on the campus of the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, 4200 S. 4th St., Leavenworth, Kan. Taizé prayer is a meditative, candlelit service that includes simple chants sung repeatedly, silence, and prayers of praise and intercession. Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., will have a Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. Dec. 24.
The Rt. Rev. Dean Wolfe, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, is scheduled to visit St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., and will preach the sermon at the 11 a.m. Sunday service, Dec. 22. The service will be in English and Spanish. Bishop Wolfe will confirm new members and those renewing their vows. The parish will hold Christmas Eve services at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24 in English and at 9:30 p.m. in Spanish. Christmas day services will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 25 in English and Spanish.
White Church Christian Church, one block north of Parallel Parkway at 2200 N. 85th St., will hold its annual Christmas Candlelight service and harp music on Dec. 22. It will begin at 5 p.m. On Dec. 29, the Prairie Praise Band will conduct the service, including music. The new Bible Study group meets at 6 p.m. every Wednesday and is becoming very popular. A small meal is served to all.
Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., will begin a program of video sermons by the Rev. Adam Hamilton at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. Hamilton, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, is a nationally known speaker, having provided the message at the national prayer service in the National Cathedral following the January presidential inauguration.
Zion United Church of Christ, 2711 N. 72nd, will have a Christmas Eve service at 3 p.m. Dec. 24.
