The program will explore the life and legacy of writer and ecologist Rachel Carson. The program is part of a regular monthly series and offers time for presentation, prayer, reflection and sharing. Open Door Christian School plans a chili dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the Open Door Baptist Church gymnasium, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace.
A Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance will benefit Our Lady and St. Rose Catholic Church. The dinner will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 2, followed by the dance at 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 2 at the Blessed Sacrament Family Center, 2215 Parallel Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The menu includes seafood gumbo, seafood jambalaya and red beans and rice. Dinner tickets are $12. There also will be bingo and a silent auction. Dance tickets are $15.
A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Sisters, Servants of Mary, will be from 11 a.m. to 4 pm. Sunday, Feb. 3, at St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Center, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. A donation of $8 for adults and $3 for children is requested. The meal includes Italian sausage, meatballs and spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Carryouts are available. Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th, will hold its annual meeting and taco dinner at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Cole Activity Center. The Bible Bowl group will provide the taco dinner. The church also has a biscuit and gravy breakfast scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 11 am. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Stony Point. The breakfast is $5 per person. Proceeds will go to a teen group trip to Young Christian Weekend.
White Church Christian Church, 2200 N. 85th St., is the host of the Piper Seniors Luncheon, a monthly event. It is held at noon every first Wednesday of the month, including Feb. 6.
