Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2203 Parallel, will hold a parish fiesta beginning with the 4 p.m. bilingual Mass Saturday, Sept. 21. It will include food, games and activities.
Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., is planning an ice cream social starting after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 24. The social will be in the upper parking lot from 5 to 10 p.m. The social includes food, drink, games, ice cream and cake and other events.
Grandview Christian Church, 8550 Parallel Parkway, is collecting canned goods for Help 3:17, a local food pantry.
“Scripture Study, Bible Sharing and Reflection, Lectio and Journaling,” an eight-week series facilitated by pastoral minister, Heather Neds, will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 25, at Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. This weekly Bible study group will be based on the upcoming scripture readings from the Catholic lectionary. There will be time for reflection, sharing and journaling. Call 913-906-8990 to register.
Open Door Baptist Church, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, is planning an outdoor meadow church service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, with casual dress suggested. After the service will be a fellowship potluck luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available. Following the luncheon will be classic games for all ages from 1:15 to 3 p.m. including croquet, sack races, three-legged race, putting game, horseshoes, tug-o-war and more. A variety show will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and ice cream will be served. Hymns and special recognition will be from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
Our Lady and St. Rose Catholic Church, 2300 N. 8th, is planning a Back to School Carnival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 17.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 708 N. 4th St., is planning its annual festival after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 17, on the church grounds. Food, drink, face painting and games are planned. A free polka dance featuring Don Lipovac will be held from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the Strawberry Hill Museum grounds next door.
White Church Christian Church, one block north of Parallel Parkway at 2200 N. 85th St., will be applauding the Elders of the church on Saturday, Aug. 17, as they will be providing "Dinner and Entertainment." It starts at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited. CWF will be holding a Salad Supper at 6 p.m. on Sept. 17. Breakfast Club resumes on Sept. 21, when a certified nurse from Walgreens will be administering yearly flu and pneumonia shots. They accept all insurance cards.
Several programs are being offered at Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave. A grief support group, Caring Conversations, will be offered on Tuesdays at Wyandotte UMC. Zion United Church of Christ will hold its annual pancake breakfast to benefit the Cross-Lines Christmas Store. The breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the church, 2711 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kan. The cost of the breakfast will be $6 per person at the door. The church also is collecting gently used coats from infant to adult sizes for the Cross-Lines Christmas Store. The Golden Fellowship group at Zion United Church of Christ will meet for a program and potluck lunch at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27. Guest speaker, on the topic of Medicare, will be Chris Nicolosi, Kansas City area patient care consultant for World Health Industries.
