Edwardsville United Methodist Church, 302 N. 4th St., Edwardsville , will hold its Second Saturday Supper from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Grilled pork steak, various salads, drinks and brownies will be served. Suggested donations are $8 for adults and $3 for children.
Grandview Christian Church, 8550 Parallel Parkway, is collecting canned goods for Help 3:17, a local food pantry. The church will have coffee and doughnuts from 10 a.m. until the worship service time of 10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning at Kussman Hall.
Mayor Mark Holland will be the keynote speaker for the Heartland Habitat for Humanity 2013 Faith in Community Prayer Breakfast. The prayer breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, at the Donnelly College’s new community room, 608 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. Holland is the senior pastor of Trinity Community Church in Kansas City, Kan. The cost of the full breakfast buffet is $10 per person. Holy Family Altar Society’s Annual Golf Tournament will be Monday, June 24, at Sunflower Hills Golf Course, 12200 Riverview Road, Bonner Springs, Kan. The event begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The entry fee per person is $65, which includes a green fee; $50 hole sponsor. Food will be served after the tournament. All proceeds will benefit the Holy Family Church fuel fund. Open Door Baptist Church, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, is planning the Kingdom Rock Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 9 to 13. The church also is planning to show the film “Up” in an outdoor movie setting, in an open area next to the church, at Friday, June 14. The movie will start when it gets dark, approximately 9 p.m., and gates will open at 7 p.m. The donation is $10 per family. Those attending may bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., will offer “Leaving a Spiritual Legacy,” presented by Mary Fran Zeller from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Made up of stories and personal reflections, a “spiritual will” is a statement of core values cultivated over a lifetime. It is a way of passing on important insights gained in the school of life and expresses one’s hopes and dreams for the recipients. Members of the community are invited to enjoy good food and fun at the Summer Festival to benefit the charitable works of the Sisters, Servants of Mary, from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, on the grounds of the Sisters’ convent, 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. Homemade tacos and tamales, Italian sausage and barbecued beef sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream, and Spanish desserts will be served. There will be games for children and booths including povitica; dolls from Mexico; a variety booth; and totebags and cookbooks for sale. Several programs are being offered at Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave. Christian Movie Night will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 14. The movie will be “Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace,” the story of a Lutheran clergyman Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who opposed Hitler and the Nazis. A free will offering will be accepted. Youth and adults may attend. Wyandotte plans a Youth Car Wash after the 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services June 2. Donations will go to camp. Wyandotte will hold Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 17 to 21.
