All Saints Catholic Church, formerly St. Joseph-St. Benedict Church, 811 Vermont, will be the host for the 29th annual Polski Day celebration and parade on Saturday, May 4. The parade begins at noon at Bethany Park, 12th and Central, and marches to St. Joseph’s Church. At the church grounds, a festival will be held, including food and music. A polka Mass is scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the church.
Christ the King Catholic Church is planning a talent show a 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in Davern Hall at the church, 3024 N. 53rd St. Those participating will sign up in advance.
Grandview Christian Church, 8550 Parallel Parkway, is collecting canned goods for Help 3:17, a local food pantry. The church will have coffee and doughnuts from 10 a.m. until the worship service time of 10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning at Kussman Hall.
Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., will present “Holy Woman, St. Anne,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9. The program is part of a regular monthly series and offers time for presentation, prayer, reflection and sharing. The Salvation Army will pay tribute to America’s military heroes at its 2013 civic luncheon May 8 at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center, Kansas City, Mo. Maj. Dan Rooney, retired U.S. Air Force officer, will be the featured speaker at the event. He flew three tours of duty in Iraq and wrote the book, “A Patriot’s Calling: Living Life Between Fear and Faith.” Tickets for the 2013 civic luncheon are $125 per person. Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th, has been collecting donations of small-sized cosmetics and toiletries such as lotion, hair accessories, eye shadow or perfume so that children who come to its StoreHouse may have something to give their mothers or grandmothers on Mother’s Day. The StoreHouse ministry served 39 households on April 17; clothing for 70 persons was distributed and 165 persons were fed through the food pantry. Stony Point is planning graduation Sunday on May 5, with a breakfast for graduates at 9 a.m.
